49ers’ Star Cornerback Throws Shade At Former Chiefs Club
Lucas Peltier-USA TODAY Sports

Back when the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 54 four years ago, cornerback Charvarius Ward was playing for the Chiefs.

Fast forward to now, and Kansas City and San Francisco will be facing off in the Super Bowl yet again. However, this time around, Ward is on the other side.

Ward was asked about what was different about playing for the 49ers versus playing for the Chiefs, and he fired a shot at his former Kansas City squad with his answer.

“It’s better over here,” Ward said, via Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports.

The 27-year-old was then asked how it was better.

“Every way,” Ward said. “Every way possible.”

You can see why Ward would say that, considering he has certainly broken out since joining San Francisco as a free agent in March 2022.

Ward has played in every game since linking up with the Niners, registering 87 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and 11 passes defended during his debut campaign in the Bay Area last year.

Then, this season, Ward earned his first Pro Bowl selection after racking up 72 tackles, five picks, a forced fumble, 23 passes defended and a defensive touchdown.

Ward, who played his collegiate football at Middle Tennessee State, went undrafted but eventually landed with the Chiefs in 2018.

He spent four seasons in Kansas City and was productive, but didn’t truly find his footing until arriving in San Francisco a couple of years ago.

The Niners will look to avenge their previous Super Bowl loss when they take on the Chiefs this Sunday.
