The 2024 F1 season is up and running with four Grand Prix events already out of the way. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz has so far emerged as the early pacesetter for the Italian team whereas his teammate, Charles Leclerc , has not been able to match him.

F1 is currently in Shanghai for the Chinese Grand Prix and ahead of Friday’s running, Charles Leclerc has taken the time to admit that he has proved second best to Carlos Sainz this year. The former is ahead of Sainz in the Drivers Championship by only a margin of four points.

Moreover, one interesting thing to notice here is that the Spaniard missed the Saudi Arabian GP because of appendicitis.

He's doing a better job, in the last two races he has just been stronger. Charles Leclerc said in an interview with F1

The Monegasque has honestly admitted to being second best at Ferrari and has acknowledged the might of Sainz in the SF-24. Leclerc has so far managed two podiums during the ongoing campaign whereas Sainz has managed to rack up three.

Charles Leclerc is extremely confident ahead of the Chinese GP

While Charles Leclerc has showered immense praise on his teammate, he intends to do an extremely potent job during the ongoing Chinese GP weekend. The SF-24 is improving race after race and Leclerc wants to maximise its potential in Shanghai.

The track characteristics of the Shanghai International Circuit are expected to suit Ferrari’s challenger!

He’s driving at a very high level, which I think is great for the team. It’s great for me as well. I’ve been working a lot on that and normally when I work on points I’m quite confident on improving pretty quickly. So I’m not worried, but obviously now I need to show that on track starting from tomorrow in qualifying. Charles Leclerc said in an interview with Motorsportweek

The ongoing campaign still has 20 Grand Prix remaining on the calendar and from the ongoing Shanghai event onward, Charles Leclerc will have ample opportunities. However, keeping in view how mighty Carlos Sainz has proved this year, it won’t be easy for Leclerc to get the better of him going ahead.
